Going to Haiti was great! We spent a lot of time at an orphanage there, and I really miss the kids and the good haitian food. It was a good reminder that God is good and He will take care of me wherever I am. I may not always have all the comforts that I am used to, but I will be ok. I got to do a few medical things while I was there but mostly just bandaging scrapes and applying bacitracin. There was a nursing student in Haiti. I left her my first aid kit and stethoscope and she really seemed to like them. One of my favorite things about being in Haiti was laying on the roof of the orphanage at night, watching the shooting stars!
This week I am focusing on getting my plane ticket to Liberia... which is not easy. The price quote I got was $3,390 and a 38 hour trip to Liberia. I've emailed a few more travel agents and hope to hear a better report than that.
As it gets closer to the end of August, I am both excited for the adventure and nervous about the unknown. It's weird to think I will only be working at the hospital another month before taking off. There is a lot to get ready. I have to move everything out of my apartment before I leave. But I am trying to enjoy the journey :)
